Thanks for the comment, and sorry to hear you’re still having trouble with your Nest Protect in the Google Home app. I know of people who are able to use their Protect in the Google Home app, but it definitely sounds like a buggy process – and maybe different countries have differing support. I’ll try and find out more information and update this article if I find out more about which countries/versions are and aren’t supported. Google have a history of being bad with migrating products, or fully supporting ‘old’ products on a new platform.
How do I install and set up my Nest?
Ecobee does not have affiliates or sell data, but it shares anonymized data unless you opt out. Geofencing tracks your location if you enable it, but again, that information isn’t shared with anyone. Personally I haven’t used Homebridge with Nest but have used a wired Nest Doorbell and Nest Thermostat with Starling Home Hub and can’t recommend it enough. It’s constantly improving with new features and has been absolutely rock solid. When you’re done, select “Complete migration” to move your Nest account to Google.

The new Nest Cam integrates nicely with the Nest Protect smoke detector if it senses a problem in the home, such as a fire or CO warning. That’s great, but there’s no integration with the Nest thermostat.
