Everything in the room bursts into flames—wood dining table, wood and upholstered chairs, cookbooks, curtains and wall decorations. The oxygen in the room is virtually sucked out (used up during the rapid combustion); glass windows shatter. The upstairs fills with thick, hot, noxious smoke and the stairwell is impassible. When you have flashover in a room, temperatures can reach up to 1,400 degrees F—now, all of the other rooms in the house are severely at risk.

Fireplaces and Woodstoves

Christina Farrell, first deputy commissioner of the NYC emergency management department, said that none of the apartments were inhabited last night. A total of 26 people lived in the three-story home that suffered a fatal fire Wednesday, with eight people living on the first floor and 18 people living on the second and third floors, fire officials said. A working smoke alarm significantly increases your chances of surviving a deadly home fire. Fire estimate summaries are based on the USFA's National Estimates Methodology for Building Fires and Losses PDF.

If smoking must occur, it is safest to do so outdoors, followed by smoking over a sink or an ashtray to prevent embers from catching.

Earlier today, fire officials said smoke detectors in the building did not operate during today's fire. Many common household chemicals, including gasoline, are highly flammable if kept or used with improper caution. These should be stored in their original containers (with the warning and proper use labels intact), and sealed properly at all times. Keep chemicals and gasoline far away from heat, electrical sources, furnaces, pilot lights and other chemicals with which they could cause flames, including grease.

Electrical and Appliance Safety

The bodies of six people were recovered from a Pennsylvania home that was destroyed in a fire during a gunfight with police this week, the district attorney said Friday. Baker grabbed a hose and air pack, and started pouring water on the fire, desperate to make his way inside and calling out to his son. His chief realized whose house it was, and fellow firefighters escorted Baker back to the firehouse.

The USFA is committed to providing the best and most current information on the U.S. fire problem and continually examines data received from participating fire departments and the analytical methods used to fulfill this goal. Because of this commitment, data collection strategies and methodological changes are possible and do occur. Previous estimates on specific issues (or similar issues) may have used different methodologies or data definitions and, therefore, may not be directly comparable to current estimates.

By the time a fire occurs, it is highly dangerous and difficult to extinguish. They will also look into enforcement of self-closing doors, which is already required in New York City, they said. At least 13 people, including children, were killed in the fire that broke out at a three-story Philadelphia home Wednesday morning.

When the smoky layer inches down to the top part of a doorway, an open window or a vent, it quickly streams out of the room. Then the poisonous smoke and heated air travels through hallways and up stairwells to the second floor. It only takes 30 seconds for a small flame to turn into a full-blown life-threatening fire.

A family member on Thursday identified the parents of the three children as Britni McLaughlin-Le, 37, and Xuong Le, 40. A torso was found along with the firearm, and tests will be done to determine if it is that of the suspect, who was the uncle of at least one of the victims. Images from the scene show the almost total destruction of the house, with just its external walls remaining. Officials said that firefighters were unable to stop the blaze because of the active shooter situation. One was shot in the leg, and the other was shot in the forearm, Stollsteimer said.

But his family wasn’t able to run out of the building because there was so much smoke, he said. Terrified, they waited in a neighbor’s apartment until firefighters arrived to escort them out 15 to 30 minutes later. The Bronx fire on Sunday that killed at least 17 people, including eight children, is the second-most deadly US home fire in nearly 40 years, according to the National Fire Protection Association. At least 13 people have died after a fire broke out at the three-story home that was converted into apartments, officials said. Whether or not your house will be livable after a major fire will depend on many factors, and you will need to obtain permission from the Fire Marshall to reenter your home.

"We send our prayers to the family members, friends and neighbors of the six adults and seven children who died this morning’s fire," the statement added. If you are insured, contact your insurance company for detailed instructions on protecting your property, conducting inventory and contacting fire damage restoration companies. Fire estimate summaries present basic data on the size and status of the fire problem in the U.S. as depicted through data reported to the U.S. Fire Administration's (USFA's) National Fire Incident Reporting System from incidents reported by local response agencies. Each Fire Estimate Summary addresses the size of the specific fire or fire-related issue and highlights important trends in the data.

The fire is now under control, a law enforcement official said earlier today, but investigators have not yet been able to get inside the home. At least one of the apartment units in the home where a fatal fire broke out in Philadelphia was inspected in May 2021, according to a representative from the Philadelphia Housing Authority. First lady Jill Biden also tweeted her sympathy, saying, "My heart is with the families and loved ones of the victims of the tragic fire in Philadelphia."

One bonus tip for making the decorating process easier is to create a template for the Hello Kitty face before you start frosting the cake. You can do this by printing out a picture of Hello Kitty’s face and placing a piece of parchment paper over it. Another way to enhance the presentation of your Hello Kitty cake is by adding additional themed decorations around the base of the cake. This could include small figurines of Hello Kitty characters, edible flowers in matching colors, or even a personalized message written in icing. These extra touches will not only add visual interest but also make the overall display more dynamic and eye-catching. One option for presenting your Hello Kitty cake is to use a themed cake stand or platter.

Hello Kitty Cake Roll – A step by step recipe with a template

I'm Priya, and I'm so excited that you dropped by 🙂 Welcome to DECORATED TREATS, a place where I share all my cake decorating ideas & true and tried recipes for all things sweet. Next to go on the bottom tier of the Hello Kitty birthday cake were the Hello Kitty bows. I made them in the same way, I did for the Kitty topper and attached them all around the cake (image 2). To ensure I had the strips and scallops consistently spaced out all around the birthday cake, I started by measuring the diameter of the cake.

Hello Kitty Birthday Cake Design (How to Make)

Shaping fondant is also an essential skill when decorating a Hello Kitty cake. By rolling out fondant into thin sheets and using cookie cutters or specially shaped molds, you can create detailed elements such as her eyes or nose. Once these pieces are shaped, they can be carefully placed onto the cake surface using edible glue or water. When it comes to decorating a Hello Kitty cake, there are several techniques that can be used to bring this adorable character to life. Piping is a popular method for outlining the features of Hello Kitty, such as her iconic bow and whiskers.

Cool and Easy Hello Kitty Birthday Cake Ideas

So, don’t be surprised if you just got a request for a Hello Kitty party. And since cakes are part of the deal, you’d need some solid Hello Kitty cake ideas. Sure, you can use colored buttercream frosting for the details, but if you don’t master piping, this method with Candy Melts is super-easy, quick, and foolproof. If you’re uncomfortable drawing free-handed with buttercream, you can try a buttercream transfer. Simply draw your design on a sheet of parchment paper following a guide (drawn or printed) that you put underneath it.

It is topped with lychee popping boba and white fondant for the eyes, nose, whiskers, and ribbon. This red velvet Hello Kitty cake has solid black buttercream frosting on the side, giving it a dramatic effect. Jelly cakes are also quite a thing now, with more and more people being mesmerized by 3D gelatin art and more people trying to avoid cream and too much sugar.

Unique Frosting Techniques

First, start by leveling off each cake layer with a serrated knife or cake leveler to ensure that they are even and flat. Once leveled, carefully stack the layers on top of each other with a thin layer of buttercream frosting in between. This will help secure the layers together and provide stability for shaping. Liberally dust a clean towel with powdered sugar and lay it on top of the cake. Start with the black to outline Hello Kitty’s faces then place the yellow paste on Hello Kitty’s nose with a toothpick. Add flour and mix until partially incorporated, then add egg white and mix until smooth.

Add pink roses on top and on one side, some sprinkles, and gold candles and a topper and you’re good to go. You have gold and silver pearl sprinkles, light pink cake chocolate hearts, and a Hello Kitty face topper in either fondant or sugar cookie. This means that when you look into Hello Kitty cakes online, you’d get an overwhelmingly wide assortment of ideas. And sometimes, having too many choices can be crippling. That’s why a narrowed-down list of Hello Kitty cake ideas would come in handy.

I used the marking on the white fondant (made with the cutter when cutting out the pink strips in the step above) as a guide to attach the scallops. That way I was able to get perfectly consistent scallops all around the cake (image 1). A Hello Kitty birthday cake will also look good in pink, especially if the celebrants are girls. Design your cakes with Hello Kitty's face, and add other cake designs like white flowers and ribbons to your Hello Kitty cake to make it look more appealing. In conclusion, decorating a Hello Kitty cake can be a fun and rewarding experience for both beginner and experienced bakers. Veena is the author of three blogs - Veena Azmanov, Cake Decorating Tutorials, and East Indian Recipes. She writes about cooking, baking, desserts, and cake decorating.

Preparing the Fondant

I picked mine up at Walmart, so I was able to grab the plates and napkins there too. We set the cake up in the gazebo, along with some Hello Kitty plates & napkins, and a bouquet of helium balloons. It takes so much worry out of damaging the cake, or the softening of frosting on hot summer days. Hello Kitty’s popularity stems from her ability to transcend age, culture, and language barriers. She has a wide-ranging fan base that includes not only children but also adults who appreciate her timeless design and nostalgic value.

This could feature images of Hello Kitty or be designed in her signature colors. Alternatively, you could opt for a simple yet elegant white cake stand that allows the colorful decorations on the cake to take center stage. The key is to choose a presentation option that complements the design of the cake without overpowering it. Once you have completed decorating your Hello Kitty cake, it’s important to ensure that it is presented in a stylish and impressive manner. After all, you’ll want to showcase your hard work and creativity. There are several ways to achieve this, from choosing the right cake stand to adding complementary decorations.

You can use edible wraps printed with Hello Kitty images for your cakes. Edible wraps are thin rice paper or wafer sheets with color images printed using edible ink. Take the Hello Kitty pan and check the locations of the eyes and nose from the pan. This way of frosting a cake is so much easier than piping – you don’t need the patience of a saint! Also, you’ll get a nice and smooth surface (especially if you use the Viva paper towel method).

Then, I split the batter between the two pans and baked as instructed. And finally, I added both the Hello Kitty cake topper and the number 2 topper on the Hello Kitty birthday cake with the help of some fondant glue (image 2). Next, I attached my paper templates all around the cake with shortening.

Another technique for creating the Hello Kitty design is sculpting fondant. This involves molding and shaping colored fondant into 3D shapes that resemble the features of Hello Kitty. For example, you can create her signature bow by rolling out pink fondant and shaping it into a small bow shape, then attaching it to the cake using edible glue. Decorating a Hello Kitty cake is a fun and creative way to add a touch of cuteness to any celebration. One of the essential steps in creating this iconic design is preparing and coloring the fondant. This section will provide a detailed guide on how to prepare and color the fondant for creating the iconic Hello Kitty features, such as her bow, eyes, and whiskers.

Word-of-mouth believes that the two front rooms on the main floor were dedicated to the original Post Office of Charles Town, SC. Although the Barksdale House appears to be Victorian, it is actually the Regency Style typical of the Federal Period (early 19th century). While the construction date of the house was never documented, George Barksdale, to whom the house is now attributed, bought the land in 1778. He was a wealthy Charleston planter and one-time member of the South Carolina House of Representatives. He spent most of his time at his country residence, Youghall Plantation, but served a term in office as a tax inquirer and collector for his home parish. George's nephew, Thomas Barksdale, constructed the house on this property sometime between 1778 and 1817.

The inn has 56 rooms and it has been described as romantic and charming southern style inn. The ghost in room 303 is said to be a bit selfish and likes to have this room to itself and has been known to lock the door from the inside. Even fetching the key doesn’t help as he uses great force to hold the door shut only letting go when someone tries to break the door down. The bed & breakfast features 14 rooms, all of which are filled with a range of amenities to ensure a comfortable stay. They are also equipped with a refrigerator and a hair dryer. The number of extra beds allowed depends on the option you choose.

Ned Cohen fell head over heels in love with a Southern Belle and even convinced his boss to send him south on business just so he could see his beloved. All the food was excellent and it kept us going till supper. They had a parlor where we had our happy hour!

These are all alleged to be haunted, giving those brave enough to stay in them an extra little touch of excitement. Prices for extra beds aren't included in the total price.

So Columbia’s president has passed this test before this committee. And so Representative Elise Stefanik, the same Republican who had tripped up Claudine Gay of Harvard and others in the last hearing, really starts digging in to President Shafik about these things at Columbia. And that’s of a Middle Eastern studies professor named Joseph Massad. Now, he said they’ve been misinterpreted, but a lot of people have taken offense to those comments. And right off the bat, they’re put through a pretty humbling litany of some of the worst hits of what’s been happening on campus.

The day progressed, there was more threat of discipline. The students became informed that if they continue to stay, they will face potential academic sanctions, potential suspension. And so in my time of being a reporter, of being an editor, I’ve overseen several protests. And I’ve never seen Columbia penalize a group for, quote, unquote, not authorizing a protest. So that was certainly, in our minds, unprecedented. Since October 7, there has certainly been constant escalation in terms of tension on campus.

And on Wednesday, Hamas released a video of Hersh Goldberg-Polin, an Israeli-American dual citizen, whom Hamas has held hostage since October 7. It was the first time that he has been shown alive since his captivity began. His kidnapping was the subject of a “Daily” episode in October that featured his mother, Rachel.

A group of students before dawn set up tents in the middle of Columbia’s campus and declared themselves a pro-Palestinian encampment in open defiance of the very rules that Dr. Shafik had put in place to try and get these protests under control. Where her counterparts had gone before the committee a few months before and looked aloof, she wanted to project humility and competence, to say, I know that there’s an issue on my campus right now with some of these protests veering off into anti-Semitic incidents. I’m taking steps in good faith to make sure that we restore order to this campus, while allowing people to express themselves freely as well. And it’s a university on top of all that that has a real history of activism dating back to the 1960s.

But when the questioning starts, President Shafik is ready. One of the first ones she gets is the one that tripped up her colleagues. They brought in outside consultants, crisis communicators, experts on anti-Semitism. The weekend before the hearing, she actually travels down to Washington to hole up in a war room, where she starts preparing her testimony with mock questioners and testy exchanges to prep her for this. And she’s very clear on what she wants to try to do.

PROCESS

Do they hold back, like at Harvard, where there were dramatic videos of students literally running into Harvard yard with tents. And so Columbia, really, I think, at the end of the day, may have kicked off some of this. But they are now in league with a whole bunch of other universities that are struggling with the same set of questions. And it’s a set of questions that they’ve had since this war broke out. So Shafik’s dilemma here is pretty extraordinary.

The PDC website hosts a comprehensive visitor guide to the showrooms and manufacturers represented at the PDC. That’s the way the Jewish students interpreted it. Nick, Isabella Ramírez just walked us through what this has all looked like from the perspective of a Columbia student. And from what she could tell, the crackdown ordered by President Shafik did not quell much of anything. It seemed, instead, to really intensify everything on campus. I’m curious what this has looked like for Shafik. Can I — I just have a question for you, which is all journalism, student journalism or not student journalism, is a first draft of history.

And when this spring rolls around, the stars finally align. And the same congressional committee issues another invitation to Minouche Shafik, Columbia’s President, to come and testify. It’s the main station for Columbia’s Morningside Heights campus. And it’s day seven of the Gaza solidarity encampment, where a hundred students were arrested last Thursday. Delivering accurate and reliable information remains our top priority. Retailers know that the additional supplies and labor needed to lock up more merchandise cut into their bottom line and frustrate customers, Johnston said, but some have decided it’s a necessary trade-off to keep shelves stocked.

And at each of these institutions, there’s presidents and deans, just like President Shafik at Columbia, who are facing a really difficult set of choices. The University of Texas in Austin this afternoon, we saw protesters physically clashing with police. And by that, I mean, this thing that seemed to start at Columbia is literally spreading. I think there was obviously a lot of intention in timing those two things. I think it’s inherently a critique on a political pressure and this congressional pressure that we saw build up against, of course, Claudine Gay at Harvard and Magill at UPenn. And there was no clearer embodiment of that than what had happened that morning just as President Shafik was going to testify before Congress.

Boss Design Center has built a reputation for providing quality customer service and exceptional craftsmanship, taking pride in creating beautiful remodels that will last a lifetime. Its team will work diligently to help create the perfect design that reflects the homeowner’s style and needs. The company uses a design-build approach to ensure timely delivery and accurate cost estimates that include kitchen remodeling, bathroom remodeling, basement design, home additions, interior design, and more. Once we learn about your goals and vision, we will create a new design for your space and present you with a beautiful 3D rendering so you can envision it. Along with the design, you’ll receive a scope budget estimate, as well as a projected timeline, before asking to move forward into a formal design relationship. At the next meeting, Boss presents designs and plans for your approval. And now these schools only have a week or two left of classes. But we don’t know when these standoffs are going to end.

And there’s something like — I don’t know if it’s quite a contradiction of terms, but there’s a collision of different values at stake. So universities thrive on the ability of students to follow their minds and their voices where they go, to maybe even experiment a little bit and find those things. You have faculty, including professors, who are not necessarily sympathetic to the protesters’ view of the war, who are really outraged about what Shafik has done here. They feel that she’s crossed a boundary that hasn’t been crossed on Columbia’s campus in a really long time.

“Western media, we see you, and all the horrors that you hide,” crowds chanted at one point. Biden, like most of his predecessors, used the glitzy annual White House Correspondents’ Assn. banquet to jab at his rival, Donald Trump. He followed the jokes with solemn warnings about what he said would happen if Trump won the presidency again.

The second season covers Kate, Emilico and their friends facing new challenges in the house when a mysterious robed figure appears. The second season of Shadows House is the last one announced so far, as of early 2023. On September 11, 2021, it was announced during a livestream that a second season has been given a green-light. "I would like to point out it's after 10 pm, Sleepy Joe is still awake, while Donald Trump has spent the past week falling asleep in court every morning," Jost joked, referring to the former president's appearances at his New York hush money trial last week. The association declined an AFP request to comment on the boycott call and the planned demonstration. By contrast, Biden, who won 51% of the vote last time, knows that Trump’s core vote is solid.

Emilico, a young and cheerful Living Doll, is delighted to start serving her mistress Kate. As the two grow closer and are slowly exposed to various events within the House, they start to discover a number of dark secrets. After a shadow and a living doll get closer, they will take a test to see how well the shadow and face match. These tests normally happen in a group, presumably five pairs, where it is expected that at least one pair fails.

As measures against leaks, adults can only appear in the Children's Building in special occasions and they are not allowed to show their faces. Children are to not mention the name of invited pairs for the same reason. Shadows House (シャドーハウス, Shadō Hausu?) is the anime adaptation of So-ma-to's manga by Cloverworks. The first season was announced in October 2020 with the release of the sixth volume.

Now, Biden appears to have regained some ground, especially among his fellow Democrats, and the race appears to be back to a dead heat, at least in national surveys. Within the closely divided states, the sliver of the electorate who remain uncertain about which candidate they will vote for — or whether they’ll vote at all — will be critical to the outcome. Christina Bobb, who has promoted false claims of a stolen 2020 election and was part of a Trump-backed fake elector scheme, was tapped to lead the department. Biden’s speech before nearly 3,000 people was followed by entertainer Colin Jost from “Saturday Night Live.” Academy Award winner Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Scarlett Johansson, Jon Hamm and Chris Pine were among other stars. Other demonstrators lay sprawled motionless on the pavement next to mock-ups of flak vests with “press” insignia. Chants accused U.S. journalists of covering the war too little and misrepresenting it.

The Democratic National Committee has a legal strategy of its own, building “a robust voter protection operation, investing tens of millions of dollars,” to counter the GOP’s efforts that seek to restrict access to the polls, spokesperson Alex Floyd said. Shadows House is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by the duo So-ma-to (specifically, written and designed by Nori and illustrated by Hisshi). It has been serialized in Shueisha’s seinen manga magazine Weekly Young Jump since September 2018, with the chapters collected in eleven tankōbon volumes as of June 2022. Star Bearers are responsible for reporting notable children in the house to the Manager of the Children's Building.

On Friday, the RNC announced plans to train poll watchers, poll workers and lawyers and send out more than 100,000 attorneys and volunteers to monitor vote-counting across battleground states in November. The GOP and affiliated groups are involved in dozens of other cases with more on the way, RNC officials have said. In this election cycle, the RNC’s legal team has been involved in more than 80 lawsuits in 23 states, said Alvarez, the RNC spokesperson. Marly Hornik, CEO of United Sovereign Americans, one of the groups behind the Maryland lawsuit, said more lawsuits are intended in other states this year. On its website, United Sovereign Americans, which Hornik said formed last summer, announced plans to file lawsuits in 23 states. “Since the Israel-Gaza war began, journalists have been paying the highest price — their lives — to defend our right to the truth.

Biden's appearance at the banquet is in keeping with longstanding tradition for the event, in which the president and the national media gather for a roast of the US leader – an annual gala that was interrupted during the Trump administration. "The 2024 election is in full swing and yes age is an issue," Biden quipped. A newly released study by the Pew Research Center finds that 91% of people who voted for Biden last time and 94% of those who voted for Trump plan to vote for the same person this year.

They skew young, but also tend to be less focused on politics and less likely to vote at all, polls show. One reason it’s hard to guess how much support Kennedy will win this fall is that polls have a hard time measuring how much support he has now. In most polls during the first half of last year, Biden led by a small margin. Trump took a small lead in surveys during the last few months of the year, which he held until early spring. With the election now just over six months away, the vast majority of voters, probably about 9 in 10, have made up their minds. But those locked-in voters and states are evenly balanced between the two sides.

During an interview this month with Fox News, the RNC chairman, Michael Whatley, emphasized the party’s plans to prioritize election-related litigation. He said the RNC is recruiting and training tens of thousands of poll observers and working with thousands of attorneys. They quickly realized that wasn’t the case as the 2022 midterms also generated a high number of election-related lawsuits. Election litigation soared after the 2020 election as Trump and his allies unsuccessfully challenged his loss to Biden in dozens of lawsuits.

The gala dinner and a surrounding series of society events took place as the Gaza protest movement has been spreading to colleges across the country, and as police crackdowns on some campuses have led to hundreds of arrests. Amid some self-mockery and ribbing of the press, the 81-year-old president took sharp-elbowed jabs at his 77-year-old presumptive November election rival, quipping that "age is the only thing we have in common. My vice president actually endorsed me."
